A scheme which has created woodland, hedgerows, meadow and marsh on parts of a school playing field has won third prize in a national conservation competition. The aim of the £ 3, 300 project at Moor End High School, Crosland Moor was to create a natural habitat for wildlife as well as improving the area and providing a place of educational interest for many of the schools departments. Some 50 volunteer students, along with parents, staff and local business people, have been involved in the project, which has now gained third prize of a plaque and £ 500 cheque in the Kodak Conservation Awards. 4th November 1987

Award-Winning School Project Creates Thriving Natural Habitat for Wildlife
EDITORS COMMENTS
. This print captures the remarkable transformation of Moor End High School's playing field into a vibrant ecosystem teeming with life. The school's ambitious scheme, which has earned them third prize in a prestigious national conservation competition, aimed to create woodland, hedgerows, meadow, and marsh areas on their grounds. The project, costing £3,300 and involving 50 dedicated volunteer students alongside parents, staff members, and local business people, sought to provide a natural haven for wildlife while simultaneously enhancing the area's aesthetic appeal. It also served as an invaluable educational resource across various departments within the school. Moor End High School's commitment to environmental preservation is evident in every corner of this breathtaking photograph. Lush greenery blankets the once barren landscape as trees stand tall and proud against the backdrop of clear blue skies. Delicate wildflowers sway gently in the breeze while birds chirp joyfully from newly established hedgerows. Recognizing their outstanding efforts towards conservation and education alike, the Kodak Conservation Awards bestowed upon them a well-deserved third-place honor along with a plaque and £500 cheque. This image serves as an inspiring testament to what can be achieved when passionate individuals come together with a shared vision for creating sustainable habitats that benefit both wildlife and future generations.
