EDITORS COMMENTS
In this print from 1985, we are transported back to a time when the love for rugby was instilled in young boys as early as six years old. A total of 76 eager faces can be seen at Huddersfields Arena 84 ground, ready to embark on their first session of a Rugby League coaching course. The image captures a group of these determined youngsters being guided by experienced coaches Mick Ward and Simon Kenworthy on the art of passing the ball. Organizer Chris Forster, who served as the district coach under the National Coaching Scheme, expressed his delight at the overwhelming response received for this inaugural session. He warmly invited more boys aged Under 12 to join in for the remaining three sessions scheduled over the next three Saturdays. The photograph not only showcases an important moment in sporting history but also highlights how community initiatives like these played a vital role in nurturing talent and fostering camaraderie among young athletes. It serves as a reminder that sports have always been instrumental in shaping character and providing opportunities for personal growth. This nostalgic snapshot from our yesteryears transports us back to an era where passion for sport thrived among children, capturing both their innocence and determination.
