Lollipops for a lollipop lady... Upperthong Junior and Infant school pupils have said
Lollipops for a lollipop lady... Upperthong Junior and Infant school pupils have said goodbye to Mrs Daisy Knapton who has done the job for 10 years. Staff, parents and pupils said farewell by presenting her with an 18-carat gold ring with diamond and sapphire. And as a thank you for so many safe crossings the youngsters also gave her a selection of pictures and stories they had prepared. Also kitchen staff made her this cake - decorated with 10 lollipops. Mother-of-four Mrs Knapton, 43, who lives near the school in Parklands, Holmfirth, was praised for her hard work by headmaster Mr Roger Hirst. " She has been absolutely super. She has looked after the children and been like another mother, aunt and even granny to some of the younger ones. She has done a great deal above the call of duty." Mrs Knapton is leaving to take up a full-time job with a home improvement firm. 23rd September 1986

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this heartwarming photo print, we see the touching farewell of Upperthong Junior and Infant school pupils to their beloved lollipop lady, Mrs Daisy Knapton. After ten years of dedicated service, it was time for Mrs Knapton to move on to a new chapter in her life. To express their gratitude and bid her farewell, staff, parents, and pupils came together with a special surprise. Presenting her with an exquisite 18-carat gold ring adorned with diamonds and sapphires, they wanted to show just how much she meant to them. But the gifts didn't stop there. The young ones had prepared a collection of pictures and stories as a token of appreciation for all the safe crossings she had facilitated throughout the years. The kitchen staff also joined in by creating a delightful cake decorated with ten lollipops – symbolizing each year that Mrs Knapton had selflessly protected these children on their way to school. Headmaster Mr Roger Hirst praised Mrs Knapton's unwavering dedication and described her as not only a guardian but also someone who played multiple roles in the lives of these children - from mother figure to aunt or even granny for some. As Mrs Knapton embarks on a new adventure working full-time at a home improvement firm, this photograph serves as an everlasting reminder of the impact she made on countless lives during her time as Upperthong's cherished lollipop lady.
