Three-year-old Zoe Taylor is pictured with prize-winners from the fancy dress competition at Elland Carnival. Despite the unsettled weather the carnival committee and the people of Elland were determined to make the 25th charity carnival a success. The procession of floats and bands paraded through the streets of the town to Hullen Edge recreation ground where there was a variety of sideshows and entertainment. The retiring queen, Lisa Ayscough, crowned Suzanne Gabbitas, the Lindwell Methodist Church queen, as carnival queen for the coming year. Entertainment on the field included items by Elland Silver Band, a clog dancing display, gymnastic and Kung Fu exhibitions, a crate-staking contest and a tug-o -war. The prizes for the winning floats were presented by the Mayor and Mayoress of Calderdale, Clr and Mrs Albert Berry. 30th July 1988
