Parting Gift - A Lasting Impact on the Community
EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this heartwarming photo print, Scott Jackson and Nicola Chomiak, along with their fellow pupils at West Slaithwaithe School, proudly display a £150 cheque for Huddersfield Royal Infirmary's Laser Appeal. The genuine smiles on their faces reflect the immense pride they feel in making a difference. This generous donation was made possible through the efforts of dedicated parents, teachers, and students who organized a 6-mile sponsored walk in the picturesque Colne Valley. Their determination to support a worthy cause is truly commendable. It is worth noting that this act of kindness comes at an especially poignant time as West Slaithwaithe School prepares to close its doors forever in just two weeks. Despite facing uncertainty about their educational future, these young individuals have shown incredible resilience and compassion by raising an additional £350 for the appeal since Easter. The significance of this photograph extends beyond its nostalgic charm from June 29th, 1989. It serves as a reminder of how children can inspire us all with their selflessness and unwavering spirit. These pupils exemplify the values of community engagement and empathy that should be cherished and nurtured within our education system. As we look back on this moment captured in time - amidst an era defined by hopefulness and progress - let it serve as a testament to the power of collective action towards creating positive change.
