EDITORS COMMENTS
Today's the day the teddy bears have their picnic. . . themselves at a Guides Rainbow Revels are (from left) Kimberly Jackson, Helen Wilkinson and Helen Radford, of Meltham Rainbow Guides. The event at Royds Hall School attracted around 100 youngsters aged five to seven, who have joined the new Rainbow section of the Guide movement. The pre-Brownie age girls brought along their teddy bears and a picnic tea and enjoyed a program which included games and a puppet display, creative activities, and a singsong. It was an enchanting sight to see these young girls bonding with their furry companions while immersing themselves in nature's embrace. Representatives from various districts including Huddersfield, Dewsbury, and Wakefield came together for this West Yorkshire (South) event. Mrs Joan Bedford served as the coordinator for this delightful gathering; her dedication as the county Rainbow organizer shone through in every aspect of the event. This photograph captures not only precious childhood memories but also highlights the importance of fostering friendship and imagination among young minds. The innocence radiating from each child's face is mirrored by their beloved teddy bear companions. As we look back on this snapshot from June 11th, 1988 - part of our 'All Our Yesterdays' collection - it serves as a reminder that simple joys like picnics with friends can create lasting bonds that withstand the test of time.
