EDITORS COMMENTS
In this heartwarming photo print, we catch a glimpse of the beloved Dick Turpin fan club in action. Richard Hutchings, famously known as the highwayman Dick Turpin, made a special appearance at the Woodman Inn in Bradley and instantly won over the hearts of local children. The image captures a delightful moment as four-year-old Katie Carrig enjoys an enchanting horseback ride with her hero. This encounter was not just about fun and games; it carried a noble cause too. As Dick Turpin made his way from London to York, he collected cash donations from various pubs along the route. The proceeds raised during this extraordinary tour will be divided between two worthy causes: Licensed Victuallers National Homes for retired licensees and Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital in London. Organized by the Licensed Victuallers National Homes Committee, this charitable initiative is expected to raise an impressive £20,000. Every contribution counts towards making a difference in the lives of those who have dedicated their careers to serving others and supporting young patients battling illness. The Woodman Inn proudly contributed £80 towards this remarkable endeavor on June 1st, 1988.
