Its a long way to the ground as steeplejacks begin to demolish the 133 year old chimney at J & J Cash Ltd in Kingfield Road, Coventry, West Midlands. The site of the 90ft chimney will become a car park in the firms i£ 1.5 million modernisation scheme, which includes replacing the oil fired boilers for gas. Capturing the End of an Era: Steeplejacks Begin Demolition of Historic Chimney". In this photo print, we witness the beginning of the end for a 133-year-old chimney at J & J Cash Ltd in Kingfield Road, Coventry. As steeplejacks carefully dismantle this towering structure, it becomes evident just how long and treacherous their journey to the ground will be. This iconic chimney has stood as a symbol of industry and manufacturing in West Midlands for over a century. However, progress calls for change, and with plans to modernize the firm's facilities with a £1.5 million renovation project, including transitioning from oil-fired boilers to gas, this historic landmark must make way for a new era. Surrounded by neighboring buildings on all sides, traditional demolition methods are deemed impossible due to safety concerns. Hence why skilled steeplejacks have been entrusted with dismantling each brick meticulously – one by one – ensuring minimal disruption to its surroundings. The image captures not only the physical height that these brave workers must conquer but also serves as a metaphorical representation of bidding farewell to an industrial past while embracing future advancements. As we gaze upon this snapshot frozen in time from May 22nd, 1980 - part of our cherished Memory Lane Prints collection - let us reflect on the ever-changing landscape around us and honor those who play vital roles in shaping our cities' futures.
