EDITORS COMMENTS
These boots were made for walking - and that's just what these lads from the Territorial Army were planning to do. In this photo print, members of B Company, 1st Battalion, the Yorkshire Volunteers can be seen setting off in trucks from their base in Stockton Road, Middlesbrough. Their destination? The rugged North York Moors where they would embark on the grueling Lyke Wake Walk. Dressed in their khaki uniforms and camouflage gear, these dedicated soldiers were not only testing their physical endurance but also raising funds for a worthy cause. With hopes of collecting around £300 for Nazareth House charity, these brave men embarked on an overnight journey through challenging terrains. The image captures a moment frozen in time - a group of determined individuals studying maps before venturing into the unknown. Each soldier carries with them the weight of responsibility and duty towards both their comrades and those they aim to support through charitable efforts. This photograph is a testament to the spirit of camaraderie within our armed forces during the 1980s. It serves as a reminder that even outside combat situations, our servicemen are always ready to face challenges head-on while making positive contributions to society. Preserved by Memory Lane Prints, this snapshot offers us a glimpse into history - showcasing bravery, selflessness, and unwavering dedication.
