Frederick Charles Keenor. Born: 1894. Birthplace: Theodora Street, Roath, Cardiff
Frederick Charles Keenor. Born: 1894. Birthplace: Theodora Street, Roath, Cardiff. Achievements: The no-nonsense defender made 371 appearances for Cardiff City and was capped 32 times by Wales. Famous for: Leading Cardiff City to their one and only FA Cup triumph with a 1-0 victory over Arsenal in 1927. Died: 1972. *ONE IS a Cardiff City hero who will live forever in the capitals folklore. The other is an Indian spiritual guru. Now there are moves afoot to get both recognised with bronze statues in the capital. And its anyones guess which will appear first - but the Echo-backed Fred Keenor Statue Appeal has reached a key milestone in its bid. The campaign has raised £ 45, 000 for the statue in memory of the captain of the 1927 FA Cup-winning team. That is the total the committee needed to be able to apply for £ 15, 000 promised by Cardiff council once invoices for work carried out by artist Roger Andrews have been received. Mr Andrews has started work on the statue at his workshop in Llantwit Major - but even with the council donation the appeal still needs to raise another £ 25, 000

EDITORS COMMENTS
The print captures Frederick Charles Keenor, a legendary figure in Cardiff City's history. Born in 1894 on Theodora Street in Roath, Cardiff, Keenor went on to become one of the club's most revered players. As a no-nonsense defender, he made an impressive 371 appearances for Cardiff City and was also capped 32 times by Wales. However, it was his leadership skills that truly set him apart. Keenor famously captained the team to their only FA Cup triumph in 1927 with a remarkable 1-0 victory over Arsenal. This achievement solidified his place as a hero in the hearts of Cardiff fans. Sadly, Keenor passed away in 1972 but his legacy lives on through this photograph. In recent years, there have been efforts to honor his memory with a bronze statue alongside an Indian spiritual guru. The Fred Keenor Statue Appeal has successfully raised £45,000 towards this cause. With this milestone reached, the committee can now apply for the promised £15,000 donation from Cardiff council once artist Roger Andrews' invoices are received. Andrews has already begun crafting the statue at his workshop in Llantwit Major. Although more funds are needed to reach the appeal's target of £70,000 (excluding commercial use), supporters remain hopeful that they will be able to raise another £25,000 and see their beloved captain immortalized forever in bronze within their capital city.
