Waiting to set out on the first stage of a long journey were these children from Chace
Waiting to set out on the first stage of a long journey were these children from Chace Junior School, Coventry. The party of 33 children and six teachers were off for a 10-day holiday in Spain. For many of the children, although only 10 or 11 years old, this was not their first trip abroad. The school arranged a similar holiday last year when about 40 children travelled to Holland. Mrs. C. Hirons, deputy headmistress said she did not think the children were too young to take abroad. " They behaved themselves wonderfully well last year and we all had a marvellous time, " she said. Most of the childrens parents were there to wave them off. At a cost of about £ 30, the opportunity for them to see a bit of the world seemed too good to miss.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a moment frozen in time, as a group of eager children from Chace Junior School in Coventry prepare to embark on an exciting adventure. With their suitcases neatly lined up beside them, these 33 young explorers are filled with anticipation for their 10-day holiday in Spain. Despite their tender age of only 10 or 11 years old, many of these spirited youngsters have already experienced the thrill of traveling abroad. Just last year, the school organized a similar trip to Holland for around 40 children. Mrs. C. Hirons, the deputy headmistress, confidently states that she believes these children are not too young to venture overseas. As they bid farewell to their parents who have gathered to wave them off, one can sense both excitement and nervousness radiating from this vibrant group. The cost of approximately £30 was deemed well worth it by the parents, recognizing the invaluable opportunity for their children to broaden their horizons and witness different cultures firsthand. This nostalgic image is a testament to the timeless allure of school trips and how they shape our childhood memories. It serves as a reminder that education extends beyond textbooks and classrooms; sometimes it takes place on foreign soil where lifelong lessons are learned through exploration and discovery. Coventry Telegraph Archive's Memory Lane Prints allow us glimpses into moments like these - snapshots capturing slices of history that continue to resonate with us today.
