Two prototype mini-bikes, isued to Stratford-on-Avon Post Office to see if they were any
Two prototype mini-bikes, isued to Stratford-on-Avon Post Office to see if they were any better than conventional machines, have been rejected ny the postmen. The mini-machines, they say, are not a sgood nor as practical as the old bikes which over the years have been modified whith such things as special carriers and strengthened pedals. The bikes, as seen in our photograph, were issued to Stratford Post Office in April this year - the first town in the Midlands to get them - and the experiment should have lasted for a year but the staff were not impressed and asked for the experiment to be stopped.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This vintage print captures a moment in history when two prototype mini-bikes were introduced to the Stratford-on-Avon Post Office as an experiment. The aim was to determine if these new machines could outperform the traditional bicycles that had been serving the postmen for years. However, it seems that this innovative idea did not impress the postmen at all. In our photograph, we see two smiling posties posing with their new mini-machines. Despite their happy faces, it is clear that they are not convinced of the practicality and efficiency of these bikes compared to their trusty old ones. Over time, the conventional bicycles had been modified with special carriers and strengthened pedals, making them more suitable for their delivery needs. Issued in April of 1967, these mini-bikes were expected to be used for a year-long trial period. However, due to staff dissatisfaction and lack of enthusiasm towards them, the experiment was cut short upon request from the employees themselves. This image serves as a reminder of how sometimes even well-intentioned innovations can fall short when put into practice. It also showcases the importance of listening to those who will be directly affected by such changes – in this case, the hardworking post office staff who rely on efficient transportation methods for their daily deliveries in Stratford-on-Avon during this era of cycling culture in Britain's history.
