Mrs. Edith Olorenshaw decided to help out when she found her local post office was having

Mrs. Edith Olorenshaw decided to help out when she found her local post office was having difficulty finding a postwoman. She found she liked the job. This week - 26 years after starting her Stretton-on-Dunsmore round - she retires. " I only did it to help out and that is how it started, " said 60-year-old Mrs. Olorenshaw. She has been a familiar site in the village doing her round by bike each morning, but she feels 26 years is long enough. Her daughter, Mrs. Joyce Yates, is to take up the vacant position and our photograph shows them both together.

Mrs. Edith Olorenshaw - A Dedicated Postwoman's Farewell

EDITORS COMMENTS
. In a small village of Stretton-on-Dunsmore, the local post office faced a dilemma when they struggled to find a postwoman. Enter Mrs. Edith Olorenshaw, whose kind heart and willingness to help led her down an unexpected path. What started as a temporary solution turned into 26 years of dedicated service. At the age of 60, Mrs. Olorenshaw has decided it is time to bid farewell to her beloved round in the village she called home for so long. "I only did it to help out and that is how it started" she humbly shared with us. For over two decades, villagers have grown accustomed to seeing Mrs. Olorenshaw pedaling through their streets each morning on her trusty bicycle, delivering letters and packages with care and precision. Her commitment and friendly demeanor made her not just a reliable postwoman but also an integral part of the community. As she hangs up her uniform, passing on the torch becomes a family affair; Mrs. Joyce Yates, Mrs. Olorenshaw's daughter, will be taking over the vacant position at the local post office. In this heartfelt photograph captured by Derrick Warren in February 1974, we see both mother and daughter standing side by side - one retiring after years of dedicated service while another embarks on a new chapter in their career journey.
