Youngsters got a rare chance to see some of the finest helicopters in the world at an annual festival at the Bowes Railway Museum.
Bosses at the museum, in Washington, held a special day for hundreds of pupils who were granted a day off from school.
Pupils from the local Springwell Village School were just some of the 400 from Sunderland and Gateshead who turned up for the event.
Among the attractions was a giant Sikorsky Sea Stallion used by the American 21st Special Ops Squadron and known as the Jolly Green Giant.
It was the 9th annual event of its kind at the museum and pupils from Farringdon School in Sunderland provided music with their band, Far Sun.
Pictured is seven-year-old Natalie Young of Shiney Row on one of the combat rescue helicopters.

The museum, located in Washington, organized a special day exclusively for hundreds of pupils who were granted a well-deserved break from their school routine. Among the 400 enthusiastic attendees from Sunderland and Gateshead was Springwell Village School, eager to explore the wonders that awaited them. The highlight of the event was undoubtedly the presence of some of the most exceptional helicopters known to mankind. A particular crowd favorite was the colossal Sikorsky Sea Stallion, affectionately referred to as the Jolly Green Giant by members of American 21st Special Ops Squadron. Its awe-inspiring size and remarkable history left everyone mesmerized. Adding melody and rhythm to this thrilling occasion were talented musicians from Farringdon School in Sunderland. Their band, Far Sun, filled the air with enchanting tunes that perfectly complemented the atmosphere buzzing with excitement. Captured in this timeless print is seven-year-old Natalie Young from Shiney Row, beaming with joy as she sits inside one of these combat rescue helicopters.
