EDITORS COMMENTS
The Redesdale cinema, located at 224 Foleshill Road in Coventry, holds a rich history that spans several decades. Originally opened in 1933, this magnificent art deco building stood as a symbol of entertainment and community gathering for the people of Coventry. With its grand façade and elegant architecture, it quickly became a beloved landmark within the city. However, like many cinemas of its time, The Redesdale faced challenges with changing trends in entertainment. In 1952, it sadly closed its doors as a cinema but found new life as the Tree Tops Club - a vibrant dance hall that brought joy to countless visitors. For six years from 1973 to 1978, music filled these walls once again before the club eventually ceased operations. Today, this iconic structure has been transformed into something entirely different yet equally significant - a Sikh Temple. It stands proudly as an emblem of cultural diversity and religious harmony within Coventry's ever-evolving landscape. This print by Bob Cole captures not just an architectural marvel but also tells the story of resilience and adaptation over time. It serves as a reminder that buildings may change their purpose throughout history but continue to hold memories and significance for those who have experienced them.
