Darts players in Bernard Robsons pub team are getting more than they bargained for
Darts players in Bernard Robsons pub team are getting more than they bargained for. For the charity-minded Coventry landlord is putting them up for raffle. He wants to raise cash for a guide dog for the blind, and has hit on the idea of using the six-strong all-male team. At a garden fete at The Spires pub in Grayswood Avenue, Chapelfields, on Saturday, raffle tickets will be sold and the winners will get a man for the day. " They re big strapping lads and they re yours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the day of your choice and they ll do anything legal, " says Mr Robson. " They will do odd jobs for you around the house or garden or if you want you can send them to a friend, perhaps a pensioner who needs something done." He hopes to raise about 500 from the auction and the fete, which will include a barbecue and stalls.

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photo print, we are transported back to the 1980s, where a group of darts players from Bernard Robson's pub team find themselves in an unexpected situation. Little did they know that their camaraderie and love for the game would lead them to become part of a unique charity initiative. Bernard Robson, the kind-hearted Coventry landlord, decided to put his six-strong all-male team up for raffle in order to raise funds for a guide dog for the blind. The photograph captures these big strapping lads with determination and enthusiasm as they prepare themselves for an extraordinary day ahead. At The Spires pub in Grayswood Avenue, Chapelfields, a garden fete is set to take place on Saturday. Raffle tickets will be sold and lucky winners will have the opportunity to have one of these men at their disposal from 10 a. m. until 6 p. m. , ready to assist with any legal tasks or odd jobs around their homes or gardens. Mr. Robson hopes that through this auction and fete he can raise approximately £500 towards his noble cause. This event promises not only fundraising activities but also delicious barbecues and various stalls offering entertainment for everyone attending. This heartwarming image captured by Tony Smith reminds us of the power of community spirit and how even small gestures can make a significant impact on those in need.
