There was one fan author and actor Norman Painting was particularly pleased to meet when

There was one fan author and actor Norman Painting was particularly pleased to meet when he held a book-signing session in Leamington. For when 88-year-old Mrs Louisa Jones popped into John Goulds bookshop in Regent Street for a signed copy of Mr Paintings new book, it turned out she was a distant relative. And after chatting with her about the family and its farming connections. Mr Painting (Phil Archer of radios " The Archers" ), concluded: " There is much more farming in my background than I knew." Mrs Jones - whose maiden name was Painting, lives at Percy Terrace. The visit was a surprise birthday treat planned for her by her grand-daughter, Mrs Elizabeth Anker. " She has always said that Norman Painting was a distant relatived, but they have never met, " explained Mrs Anker. Mrs Jones confessed that the visit was a complete surprise. " I didn t know anything about it." she said. " I don t go into the town as I can t walk far but its very nice to have met him." The signing session for Mr Paintings book " Forever Ambridge" about the making of " The Archers" during the last 25 years, took place only a few yards from where he was born in Grove Street. He stayed in Leamington until he was 14, and then moved to The Old Rectory in Warmington. He has acted in " The Archers" since it began and has written scripts for the series for the past 10 years, as well as maintaining a seperate career as a writer. Mr Painting said he never intended to get involved in a daily serial. He wanted to wite poetry and plays but he has never become bored and still looks forward to recording. He described the book as an " affectionate retrospective" of the programme and its people. He thinks one of the strengths of the series has been that it is about what could and does happen in an English village.

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this print captured by Brian Walkeden, we see the joyous encounter between fan author and actor Norman Painting and his distant relative, 88-year-old Mrs. Louisa Jones. The heartwarming moment took place during a book-signing session at John Goulds bookshop in Leamington. As Mrs. Jones entered the shop to get a signed copy of Mr. Painting's new book, little did she know that she would discover her familial connection with the renowned actor behind Phil Archer of "The Archers" radio series. Engrossed in conversation about their shared family history and farming roots, Mr. Painting was pleasantly surprised to learn more about his own background. This unexpected meeting was orchestrated as a surprise birthday treat for Mrs. Jones by her thoughtful granddaughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Anker, who had always believed in their distant relation but had never met Mr. Painting before. Amidst the signing session for his book titled "Forever Ambridge" which delves into the making of "The Archers" over the past 25 years, it is fitting that this encounter occurred just yards away from where Mr. Painting was born on Grove Street in Leamington. Reflecting on his involvement with the beloved radio serial and expressing gratitude for its enduring success, Mr. Painting described his work as an "affectionate retrospective" that captures both the essence of village life and what can happen within an English community. This enchanting photograph serves as a timeless reminder of how unexpected connections can bring immense joy and appreciation for one's heritage.
