Eastenders Den and Angie Watts put their weight behind the Charity Snowball raising

Eastenders Den and Angie Watts put their weight behind the Charity Snowball raising hundreds of pounds for our Christmas appeal. Leslie Grantham and Anita Dobson, normally seen pulling pints at the Old Vic in Albert Square, were in Coventry to raise money for childrens charities an to reopen the Peeping Tom pub in Cromwell Lane, Burton Green. The doors had to be closed as crowds of fans packed the pub to catch a glimpse of the number one opera stars. The couple, who came straight from rehearsals, at the Elstree Studios near London were amused at the warm reception they received. They signed autograph after autograph and posed for pictures with the Eastenders fans. " Dirty Den" lived up to his reputation and was swamped by the ladies and Angie proved just as big a hit with the lads. They turned auctioneers for the night and sold off a special teddy bear raising 100 for the Evening Telegraph/Mercia Sound Snowball. It was Anitas first trip to Coventry, but Leslie is a frequent visitor to the city. Before he joined Eastenders he worked regularly at the Belgrade Theatre. " They used to chase me away then, " he joked. He appeared in the productions of Whose Life is it Anyway, Lady Chatterleys Lover and more recently, Brighton Rock. Pub landlords Jimmy and Kathy Lennox were delighted with the success of the evening. Their brewery, Hamden Hosts, has spent thousands of pounds revamping the pub.
