Unidentified gentleman seen here inspecting the damage to the roof of St Michael
Unidentified gentleman seen here inspecting the damage to the roof of St Michaels Cathedral, Coventry, following the Luftwaffes air raid on the city on the night of the 14th October 1940. The fire at the Cathedral was quickly seen by the roof watchers on duty at the time. The incendiary bomb crashed through the lead roof and lodge in the space between that and the subsidary roof and was difficult for the fire fighters to deal with. The bombing was over a wide spread area of the city and many of the citys historic landmarks were damaged. Casualties for the raid were - Killed 22; Injured 96.
