This De Havilland D. H. 84 G-ACCV Seafarer flown by Mr Jim Mollison
This De Havilland D.H.84 G-ACCV Seafarer flown by Mr Jim Mollison and his wife Amy Mollison (formerly Amy Johnson), pictured in flight over Mine Head Lighthouse off the coast of Waterford, Southern Ireland en route for the USA.
The plane was specially equipped with cabin fuel tanks and strengthened undercarriage for an attempt on the worlds long distance record by the husband and wife aviators.
They took off from Pendine Sands in South Wales on 22nd July 1933, heading out over the Atlantic en route for New York. After a flight of 39 hours they arrived over Bridgeport, Connecticut, but owing to fatigue and darkness they landed downwind turning the aircraft over; they escaped with only minor injuries.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the iconic De Havilland D. H. 84 G-ACCV Seafarer, piloted by Mr Jim Mollison and his wife Amy Mollison (formerly known as Amy Johnson), soaring gracefully over Mine Head Lighthouse off the picturesque coast of Waterford, Southern Ireland. The aircraft was ingeniously modified with cabin fuel tanks and a reinforced undercarriage, all in preparation for an audacious attempt on the world's long-distance record by this adventurous husband-and-wife aviator duo. Embarking on their daring journey to the United States, they took off from Pendine Sands in South Wales on that fateful day of 22nd July 1933. Braving the vast expanse of the Atlantic Ocean, they pushed their limits for an astonishing 39 hours until finally reaching Bridgeport, Connecticut. However, exhaustion coupled with darkness led to a challenging landing against strong winds which caused their beloved aircraft to overturn tragically. Fortunately, both pilots miraculously escaped with only minor injuries. This photograph not only immortalizes a significant moment in aviation history but also symbolizes courage and determination exhibited by these pioneers of early flight. It serves as a testament to human resilience and unwavering spirit amidst adversity. Transporting us back to the remarkable era of biplanes and groundbreaking records set in aviation's golden age during the 1930s, this image evokes nostalgia while reminding us of mankind's relentless pursuit for progress.
