The Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, with husband Denis Thatcher

The Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, with husband Denis Thatcher, is returned to No 10 Downing Street for a third time. On the 12th June 1987 Margaret Thatcher achieved a hat-trick of successive General Election victories, the first Prime Minister to do so for over a century. On top of this she did it with a considerable majority. She even spoke of winning a fourth term in 1992. Unfortunately for Thatcher she failed to see out her third term and it was her successor John Major who led the Tories to that victory

EDITORS COMMENTS
The Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, with husband Denis Thatcher, is captured in this iconic print as they return to No 10 Downing Street for a third time. It was the 12th of June 1987 when Margaret Thatcher achieved an extraordinary hat-trick of successive General Election victories, becoming the first Prime Minister in over a century to accomplish such a feat. What made her victory even more remarkable was the considerable majority she secured. In fact, her triumph was so resounding that she confidently spoke about winning a fourth term in 1992. However, fate had other plans for Thatcher as she did not complete her third term and it would be her successor John Major who led the Tories to another victory. This photograph captures a moment of immense pride and achievement for both Margaret and Denis Thatcher. They stand side by side at the window of No 10 Downing Street, waving to their supporters with joyous smiles on their faces. The image symbolizes not only their political success but also their strong partnership as husband and wife. Taken during the politically charged atmosphere of the 1980s, this print serves as a reminder of Margaret Thatcher's influential role in shaping British politics during that era. It is an enduring testament to her determination and leadership skills that propelled her into history books.
