Gene Autry, actor and songwriter. Autry combined his actig and singing talents to great effect.He mainly appeared in Westerns and often used to sing his country and western tunes as part of the score. Autry was discovered whilst working on a railroad and soon had his own radio show. He then set off for Hollywood where he proved such a success that only a year later in 1935 he was Hollywoods number one star. In answer to this he insisted upon a huge salary increase, displaying some of his ledgendary business acumen at this early stage. During WW2 Autry served in the Air Force with distinction. After the war he set up his own production company " Flying A" making films and most succesully TV shows. He also remained very popular in the music charts. However, Autrys main talen was for business and by the seventies Autry was a billionaire owning a TV station and a baseball team
