Jack Dempsey - The Manassa Mauler and Boxing Legend

This print captures the essence of Jack Dempsey, the renowned US boxer known as the "Manassa Mauler". With a fierce determination in his eyes, Dempsey's powerful presence is evident. Dempsey's rise to fame came when he won the World Heavyweight Title in 1919 after defeating Jess Willard in an astonishing three rounds at Toledo, Ohio on July 4th. Throughout his career, he successfully defended his title against formidable opponents such as Billy Miske, Bill Brennan, Georges Carpentier (in what many consider one of his greatest fights), Tom Gibbons, and Luis Firpo. Although Dempsey eventually lost his crown to Gene Tunney on points in 1926 and again in their rematch, he remains one of the all-time great heavyweights. Notably, he was also the first boxer to achieve a One Million dollar gate at the box office. After retiring from boxing in 1932 with an impressive record behind him, Dempsey ventured into other pursuits. He opened the famous Jack Dempsey restaurant in New York City and became a respected boxing and wrestling referee. One legendary fight that stands out is his bout against Georges Carpentier on July 1st, 1921. Over 100,000 spectators flocked to Jersey City to witness this monumental clash between two heavyweight giants. In an electrifying fourth round victory over Carpentier's gracefulness and skillful technique, Dempsey solidified his status as one of boxing's most celebrated figures.
