Was Commander in Chief of the Allied forces during the Gulf War, Operation Desert Storm. The Gulf War was largely succesful for the Aliied forces. They liberated Kuwait and in doing so severely damaged Iraqs military capability. They also managed to keep Israel out of the conflict, thus avoiding the escalation of the crisis into a war of massive dimensions.
Perhaps they fell short by not overthrowing Saddam Hussein yet the United Nations resoloution that supported the Allied action did not authorise an advance into Iraq
