EDITORS COMMENTS
The Redesdale cinema, located at 224 Foleshill Road in Coventry, holds a rich history that spans several decades. Originally opened in 1933, this magnificent art deco building served as a popular entertainment hub for the local community. With its striking architectural design and grandeur, it quickly became an iconic landmark of the city. However, after nearly two decades of providing cinematic experiences to eager audiences, The Redesdale cinema sadly closed its doors in 1952. But this was not the end for this beloved establishment. In 1973, it underwent a transformation and emerged as the Tree Tops Club - a vibrant dance hall that brought joy and music to countless visitors. The Tree Tops Club thrived for five years before bidding farewell to its patrons in 1978. Today, standing proudly on Foleshill Road is none other than a Sikh Temple - an embodiment of cultural diversity and religious harmony within our ever-evolving society. This print by Bob Cole captures The Redesdale cinema during its final days as the Tree Tops Club on March 30th, 1978. It serves as a poignant reminder of how buildings can adapt and evolve over time while still retaining their historical significance. As we gaze upon this image from Memory Lane Prints, we are transported back to an era where architecture merged with entertainment seamlessly – leaving behind cherished memories etched into the fabric of Coventry's history.
