Standing proud with a brand new coat, new tack and freshly plaited tail

Standing proud with a brand new coat,
new tack and freshly plaited tail, Peter the pony is ready to face whatever the future brings.
His facelift was done for free in March 1987 but still cost his owners a pretty penny.
Peter was a genuine Victorian horse which had just seen the light after a 10-year kip in an outhouse at Seaton Burn First School.
He was in a bit of wonky state with no tail, no ears, no saddle or stirrups and his rocker had smashed.
Being of an ancient lineage, however, he was still valued at £ 250 by Sothebys who were consulted by headmistress Mary Brown. Three of the trainees who restored Peter are pictured, from left, David Brownlee, 18, and 16-year-olds Darren Anderson and Paul Atkinson
