At the ripe old age pf 2 years tiny Caroline Smith, daughter of Ken Smith Superintendant

At the ripe old age pf 2 years tiny Caroline Smith, daughter of Ken Smith Superintendant at the Jersey, Channel Islands Zoo is the real friends of all the animals. So much so that even the three years old gorilla " N pongo", as strong as he is can be seen handled like a baby doll. Visitors are shocked at her lack of fear, and the fact that monkeys, and many other types of animals come in for petting every day when she toddles round the cages. Caroline is the daughter of a Zoo family, for her mother Trudy and Father Ken had Paington Zoo as their home for some time, when Caroline arrived in Jersey she was a month old, and arrived by boat nestling in a cot surrounded by birds in the cabin. Since then she has grown up with the animals. She shares her sweets with them. The ant eater with his long nose is just another friend, or even the giant lizard, who thrusts out his tongue alarmingly. March 1961 P2121-004

EDITORS COMMENTS
At the tender age of 2, little Caroline Smith has become a beloved friend to all the animals at Jersey, Channel Islands Zoo. As the daughter of Ken Smith, the zoo's superintendent, Caroline has grown up surrounded by fascinating creatures. Her fearlessness and affection for these animals have astounded visitors who witness her interactions with them. Even the mighty gorilla named "N pongo" three times her size and strength, is handled by Caroline like a delicate baby doll. This remarkable bond between a toddler and such powerful beings leaves spectators in awe. Caroline's connection with wildlife began early on when she arrived in Jersey as just a month-old infant, nestled in a cot among birds aboard a boat. Having previously lived at Paington Zoo with her parents Trudy and Ken, it seems that being close to nature runs in their family. Every day as she toddles around the cages, monkeys and various other animals eagerly approach Caroline for petting sessions. She happily shares her sweets with them without any hesitation or fear. Whether it be an ant eater using its long nose or a giant lizard thrusting out its alarming tongue, every creature becomes just another friend to young Caroline. This heartwarming photo captures one of those precious moments where innocence meets untamed beauty.
