The clock is being turned back at a Leamington school which is celebrating its 100th
The clock is being turned back at a Leamington school which is celebrating its 100th birthday. Some of the 190 pupils at Clapham Terrace First School have already had a taste of 19th century school life. They swopped their jotters for blackboard slates and calculators for an abacus, when they arrived for the lesson at a Victorian classroom in Warwick. Girls wore clean white smocks and boys wore smart sailor-suit collalrs for the lesson in the county museum at St. Johns House. Pupils had to recite their tables, do sums on their slates, and take down dictation. Head teacher Susan Sharp wants to trace all surviving former pupils so they can be invited to a series of reunions. She wants to put former pupils reports and photographs into an exhibition at the school during summer term.

EDITORS COMMENTS
The clock is being turned back at Clapham Terrace First School as it celebrates its 100th birthday. In a nostalgic tribute to the past, some of the school's 190 pupils experienced a day in a 19th century classroom. Stepping into a Victorian classroom at St. Johns House, these young learners traded their modern tools for blackboard slates and abacuses. Dressed in traditional attire, girls donned clean white smocks while boys sported smart sailor-suit collars. Under the watchful eye of Head Teacher Susan Sharp, this unique experience aimed to transport students back in time. Reciting times tables, solving sums on slates, and taking dictation were just some of the activities that brought history alive for these eager learners. As part of their centenary celebrations, Clapham Terrace First School hopes to reconnect with former pupils by tracing their whereabouts and inviting them to reunions throughout the year. The school also plans to curate an exhibition during the summer term featuring former pupils' reports and photographs. This print captures not only the spirit of education but also highlights how traditions can be cherished across generations. It serves as a reminder that even amidst technological advancements, there is value in revisiting our roots and embracing our shared history.
