EDITORS COMMENTS
In this print from Memory Lane Prints, we are transported back to the 13th of June in 1969. The image captures a momentous occasion as Mr. Walter Owen Bentley, the visionary behind Bentley cars, arrives in Leamington for The Bentley Rally. Despite his significant contribution to the motor industry by starting the production of these iconic vehicles half a century ago, it is surprising to learn that he arrived at the event in a borrowed Rolls Royce Silver Shadow. Mr. Bentley humbly admits that he doesn't even own a Bentley himself but instead drives a modest Morris Minor that has faithfully served him for twelve years. This revelation adds an endearing touch to his presence at the rally and showcases his genuine passion for automobiles rather than material possessions. As crowds eagerly line The Parade in Leamington, their excitement and admiration are palpable. They cheer on not only Mr. Bentley but also all participants of this historic event organized by the prestigious Bentley Drivers Club and Shell. It is clear that these vintage car enthusiasts have gathered here today to celebrate both the legacy of Bentley Cars and pay tribute to its founder's remarkable achievements. This photograph encapsulates not just an era but also highlights how one man's vision can revolutionize an entire industry while remaining humble and grounded throughout his journey.
