Coins, stamps and copies of newspapers - an edition of the Coventry Evening Telegrph

Coins, stamps and copies of newspapers - an edition of the Coventry Evening Telegrph among them - made a little piece of history in Leamington today. They were among many items buried in a sealed time capsule in the foundations of the £ 10 million Regency Arcade shopping centre. The capsule will remain there covered by a plaque as a reminder of its presence until it is opened in 2089. Guests saw Councillor Spencer Harrison. chairman of Warwick District Council, guide the capsusle into place as it was lowered by a crane. Developers Midland Oak Estates are creating more than 20, 000 sq ft of specialist shops with a selection of restaurants, cafes and wine bars and a luxury office suite.

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photo print, we are transported back to the year 1989, where a significant moment in Leamington's history was captured. The image showcases an assortment of coins, stamps, and copies of newspapers, including an edition of the Coventry Evening Telegraph. These precious items were carefully placed inside a time capsule that was buried in the foundations of the Regency Arcade shopping centre. The ceremony held on that day marked the sealing of this time capsule, which is set to remain undisturbed until its grand opening in 2089. As guests looked on with anticipation, Councillor Spencer Harrison, chairman of Warwick District Council, guided the capsule into place using a crane. Developers Midland Oak Estates played a crucial role in creating this magnificent structure that would house over 20,000 sq ft of specialist shops alongside various dining options such as restaurants and cafes. Additionally, wine bars and a luxurious office suite were also included within this impressive development. This photograph not only captures a momentous occasion but also serves as a reminder for future generations about their town's rich heritage. It symbolizes progress and growth while preserving snippets from the past within its sealed confines. As we gaze upon this image today, it sparks curiosity about what lies hidden beneath our feet - waiting patiently to be discovered by those who will walk these streets many years from now.
