Hello, Its Hercules: The little fellow taking a bow before the lens of cameragirl

Hello, Its Hercules: The little fellow taking a bow before the lens of cameragirl Elsa Mayo is Hercules, the baby tortoise. It was four years ago that mother Juno was introduced to proud father Achilles, in the garden of solicitors clerk David Cutlack, at Kemsing, Kent. But tortoises are slow, even when it comes to doing the what comes naturally. And it wasn t until July this year that Juno was finally spotted digging a hole and laying three eggs. It is very rare indeed for tortoises to breed in Britains cold climate. But Mrs. Joy Cutlack put the eggs in a tin of sand in here airing cupboard. She said: " We had given up hope of them hatching when Hercules suddenly surfaced." He weighed in at just a quarter of an ounce and now, a month later, is matchbox-sized, slowly blossoming in a heated plant propagation frame. Hercules comes under the parental scrutiny of Achilles and June. November 1974 P000725

EDITORS COMMENTS
Hello, It's Hercules: The little fellow taking a bow before the lens of cameragirl Elsa Mayo is Hercules, the baby tortoise. This heartwarming photo captures the incredible journey of Hercules, who defied all odds to come into this world. Four years ago, his parents Juno and Achilles were introduced in a garden in Kemsing, Kent by David Cutlack. However, breeding tortoises in Britain's cold climate proved to be quite challenging. After years of waiting patiently, Juno was finally spotted digging a hole and laying three eggs last July. Hope seemed lost when the eggs were placed in a tin of sand inside an airing cupboard until Mrs. Joy Cutlack witnessed something miraculous - Hercules emerged from his shell! Weighing just a quarter of an ounce at birth, he has since grown to matchbox size under the watchful eyes of his proud parents. This extraordinary story showcases the resilience and determination found even within nature's slowest creatures. Despite facing unfavorable conditions for breeding, Hercules managed to defy expectations and bring joy to those around him. The photograph serves as a reminder that sometimes miracles can happen when we least expect them. Taken in November 1974 by Mirrorpix (not affiliated with any company), this image from Memory Lane Prints encapsulates both the fragility and strength present within our natural world.
