Bessie the lost Battersea Bassett, with baby Bill and Bette. Found distressed on the famous Hackney Marshes on December 11th and taken into custody at St Annes Road Police Station, this four years old Bassett hound now named Bessie by her kennel maid at Battersea Dogs Home is a proud Mum. She was se ill before Christmas that kennel maids took it in turn to feed and comfort her, when they knew she was pregnant. Eventually she gave birth to ten puppies over a period of four days. Only two have survived after a period of great care from kennel maid Gillian Harmer and her colleagues. To-day here is Bessie with her new pups Bill and Bette who will seen be on the list for seeking a good home. In the meantime she is showered with care and attention from everybody, while one of the legion of the lost. January 1978 P007447
