The Ugly Orphan: Bert the mongrel finds his face is his misfortune
The Ugly Orphan: Bert the mongrel finds his face is his misfortune. He is bright and friendly - and so ugly that nobody wants him. Berts bottom teeth stick out because his lower jaw is too big. Goofy is one of his kinder nicknames. Some call him Dracula. But no one visiting the RSPCA home at Hatch Beachamp, Sommerset, has decided to call two-year-old Bert their own. Supervisor Sarah Jones said at the home near Taunton: " its quite unusual to see a dog looking as odd as this and it does tend to put people off. He was picked up as a stray more than a month ago and no one has even thought about taking him. All the other dogs here are so much better looking. Its so sad. Hes very affectionate and good natured. He d make a super pet. " He really love everyone. But they don t love him back." August 1985 P006057

EDITORS COMMENTS
The Ugly Orphan: Bert the mongrel finds his face is his misfortune. In this heartwarming photo print, we see Bert, a two-year-old dog with an unusual appearance that has sadly left him without a loving home. With his bright and friendly personality shining through, it's hard to understand why nobody wants him. Bert's unique features include bottom teeth that stick out due to his larger lower jaw, earning him nicknames like Goofy and even Dracula. Supervisor Sarah Jones at the RSPCA home in Hatch Beachamp, Somerset shares her thoughts on Bert's situation - "It's quite unusual to see a dog looking as odd as this and it does tend to put people off". Despite being picked up as a stray over a month ago, no one has shown interest in giving Bert the forever home he deserves. However, behind his unconventional looks lies an incredibly affectionate and good-natured companion who would make an exceptional pet. It is truly heartbreaking that while he loves everyone he meets, they don't reciprocate those feelings. This photograph captures both the cute and humorous side of Bert's facial expressions from August 1985. Let us remember this moment as a reminder of the importance of looking beyond appearances when choosing our furry companions.
