As the train began to leave, the Porter found the baby alone and grabbed her and the luggage off the train. At the same time the parents jumped back on the train and left the station. EDITORS COMMENTS
This heartwarming print captures a remarkable moment in the life of Porter Wally Lawes at Euston Station, London. In the bustling train station, one-year-old Deidre found herself alone when her parents, Mr and Mrs O Hara, departed for Manchester on a train. As fate would have it, Mr O Hara was delayed while getting tickets and Mrs O Hara went to find him just as the train started to leave. In this unexpected turn of events, Porter Wally Lawes stepped in heroically. He spotted little Deidre all by herself and swiftly grabbed her along with their luggage off the moving train. Meanwhile, unaware of what had transpired, Deidre's parents managed to jump back onto the departing train just as it left the station. Realizing they were separated from their precious daughter and burdened with worry, Mr and Mrs O Hara pulled the emergency cord on board. The train came to an abrupt halt before reaching its next stop 177 miles away! With relief flooding over them like a wave, they retraced their steps back to Euston Station. During this unforeseen reunion between baby Deidre and her relieved parents on that memorable day of January 20th in 1967, Porter Wally Lawes became an unlikely guardian angel. He lovingly cared for little Deidre until her family returned safely. This photograph not only freezes a unique slice of history but also reminds us of how even strangers can step
