To big John Wayne, the punch was little more than a minor irritation

To big John Wayne, the punch was little more than a minor irritation. The man who threw it, Richard Attenborough, obviously ought to have picked someone his own size rather than the Duke. But it was their stature as actors that the adversaries battled to retain on Thursday (11-7-74) as they clashed in a mock-fight scene for the film " Brannigan" at Shepperton Studios in Middlesex. The scene develops into a pub fracas, which the movie makers hope will help Brannigan, Waynes first London-based picture, to a smash hit. The accent, they say, is on action and laughs. Otherwise known as taking it on the chin with a grin. Hes only kidding - and Attenborough knows it. EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photo print, we witness the clash of two legendary actors, John Wayne and Richard Attenborough, as they engage in a mock-fight scene for the film "Brannigan". Despite the punch thrown by Attenborough, it seems to be nothing more than a minor irritation for the towering figure that is John Wayne. Perhaps Attenborough should have thought twice before picking a fight with someone of such immense stature. The adversaries battle not only physically but also strive to retain their stature as actors on this eventful day at Shepperton Studios in Middlesex. The scene they are filming develops into a pub fracas, which holds great promise for "Brannigan". Wayne's first London-based picture. The movie makers hope that this combination of action and laughs will propel it to become an absolute smash hit. Amidst all the chaos and commotion, there is an underlying sense of camaraderie between these two talented individuals. It is evident that Attenborough knows Wayne's playful nature and understands that he is merely kidding around. With smiles on their faces after the punch has been thrown, they demonstrate their mutual respect and admiration. This photograph captures a moment frozen in time - July 1974 - where entertainment meets artistry. It serves as a reminder of the incredible talent possessed by both actors and offers us a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes world of filmmaking during the vibrant 1970s era.
