Into battle with Attenboroughs Army. They re known as Attenborough

Into battle with Attenboroughs Army. They re known as Attenboroughs Army and they re being trained into a rough, tough bunch of paratroops. But theres something different, for they re really actors who have been transformed into soldiers in a few short weeks for the film " A Bridge Too Far." The film, based on Cornelius Ryans book of the same name, tells the story of the Allied airborne attack in 1944 at Arnhem, Holland. The film, directed by Sir Richard Attenborough, is being shot near the original location. And the actors have been undergoing paratrooper training and living in barrack-type accommodation in the interests of authenticity. Film director Sir Richard Attenborough inspects his " Army" of actors, on location in Holland. June 1976 P016986

Into battle with Attenborough's Army - Actors transformed into soldiers for 'A Bridge Too Far'

EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this print from June 1976, we witness the remarkable transformation of actors into a rough and tough bunch of paratroops known as Attenborough's Army. Directed by Sir Richard Attenborough, the film "A Bridge Too Far" brings to life the gripping tale of the Allied airborne attack in 1944 at Arnhem, Holland. To ensure authenticity, these dedicated actors have undergone rigorous paratrooper training and embraced a soldier's way of life. Living in barrack-type accommodations near the original location where history unfolded, they immerse themselves fully in their roles. The image captures an awe-inspiring moment as Sir Richard Attenborough inspects his army of actors on location in Holland. With a keen eye for detail and unwavering commitment to realism, he ensures that every aspect is perfect - from uniforms to mannerisms. This photograph encapsulates not only the dedication and hard work put forth by these talented individuals but also pays homage to those brave soldiers who fought during World War II.
