EDITORS COMMENTS
This poignant mourning fob holds the memories of two brave soldiers from the Sherwood Foresters (Notts. & Derby Regiment) who made the ultimate sacrifice during the First World War. The first photograph features 50170 Private William Miller, who died on April 9, 1917, at the young age of 31. His loss was deeply felt, and his name is etched in history on the Ypres/Menin Gate Memorial, Panels 39 and 41. The second photograph captures the image of 201791 Private W.B. Miller, who tragically lost his life on June 24, 1917, at just 21 years old. His final resting place is the Maroc British Cemetery in Grenay, where he lies in Grave II.E.4. The mourning fob, a commemorative piece of wear, serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by these two brave men and the countless others who gave their lives during the First World War. Their stories, like countless others, continue to inspire us with their courage and resilience in the face of adversity. This touching keepsake is a testament to the enduring bond between families, communities, and the fallen heroes who have left an indelible mark on history.
