EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph showcases the Morane-Saulnier MS.317 F-BCNL (msn 6527/273), a rare and historic aircraft that was believed to have started its life as a North American T-6 Texan Harvard trainer in the USAF during the early 1950s. The MS.317 is a French post-war aeroplane, designed by Jean Baptiste Salis and first flew in 1957. This specific MS.317 was acquired by the French Air Force (AF) in 1957, with the registration F-AZHD 79413, and later re-registered as F-WZBK in 1982. In the late 1980s, the MS.317 underwent a conversion to resemble the Japanese A6M Zero fighter, becoming a part of the SA-30 "Zeros in the Sky" display team. The aircraft was falsely labeled as a replica of the NA-68 "Shooting Star" and NA-79 "Cobra" during this period. However, it is now known that the MS.317 is a genuine MS.317 and not a replica. The MS.317 was later reverted to its original configuration in 1992 and registered as F-BCNL. It is now owned by a private collector and is believed to be one of the few surviving MS.317 aircraft worldwide. The aircraft's unique history and stunning appearance make it a beloved and intriguing addition to the aviation community. This photograph captures the MS.317 F-BCNL (msn 6527/273) in its current form, circa 2000, with the registration F-BCNL and the markings of the North American T-6 Texan Harvards. The aircraft's rich history and continued preservation are a testament to the enduring allure of aviation and the passion of those who collect and restore historic aircraft.
