EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph, taken circa 2000, showcases a McDonnell Douglas F-15A Eagle (74-0131, msn 107) proudly displayed on a pylon at RAF Lakenheath Heritage Park. The F-15A-12-MC Eagle, with its distinctive angular design and powerful engine, is a testament to the advanced aviation technology of its time. Although this specific F-15A bears the serial number of an actual aircraft used by the United States Air Force, it has been given a new identity in the colors of the fictitious F-15E Strike Eagle 92-048, adorned with the markings of the 493rd Tactical Fighter Squadron (TFS) and 48th Tactical Fighter Wing (TFW). The F-15E's distinctive two-seat configuration and camouflage scheme add an intriguing layer of mystery to this static display. Accompanying the F-15A on the pylon are two other iconic aircraft: an F-111E Aardvark (68-0011) and an F-4C Phantom II (63-7419). The F-111E, with its variable sweep wings, was a versatile and formidable aircraft used for various roles, including strategic bombing and fleet defense. The F-4C Phantom II, a twin-engine supersonic interceptor, was a mainstay of the US military from the 1960s to the 1990s. Together, these aircraft represent a significant chapter in the history of military aviation, showcasing the technological advancements and innovations that have shaped the skies for decades. This photograph, from The Tony Lovelock Collection, is a must-have for aviation enthusiasts and history buffs alike, providing a glimpse into the past and a reminder of the enduring legacy of these iconic aircraft.
