This intriguing photograph, taken in 1911, captures a moment during a Spiritualist séance led by Andrew Glendinning and James Robertson. The image, published in James Coates and Elliot O'Donnell's book "Photographing the Invisible: Practical Studies in Supernormal Photography, Script and Other Allied Phenomena" (Fowler, 1921), purports to show a spirit or apparition in the form of a floating head. Glendinning, a well-known Spiritualist medium, and Robertson, a photographer, were conducting a séance in which they attempted to capture evidence of the afterlife through photographic means.
