Amidst the twilight of the First World War, the once formidable German battleship, SMS Bayern, met its final demise in the cold waters of Scapa Flow, Scotland. On the fateful day of June 21, 1919, the behemoth of the German Navy, representing the pride and power of Imperial Germany, was deliberately scuttled in Gutter Sound. The end of the war brought about a series of complex negotiations between the Allied Powers and the German High Seas Fleet. The German sailors, under the command of Admiral Ludwig von Reuter, were given an ultimatum: surrender their ships to the British Royal Navy or scuttle them in the shallow waters of Scapa Flow.
