In the year 1545, as the English Channel was a hotbed of conflict between England and France, Carew was appointed as the captain of the flagship Mary Rose, a formidable warship of the English fleet. As the two naval forces clashed off the coast of Portsmouth, Carew led his men with unwavering courage and determination. As the Mary Rose sank beneath the waves, taking Carew and hundreds of his men with her, the English fleet was left reeling from the loss of their esteemed commander and flagship. The sinking of the Mary Rose was a significant blow to English morale, but Carew's heroism and sacrifice would not be forgotten.
