Royal Wedding 1947 - bride and bridesmaid dresses

A fairytale wedding gown by Norman Hartnell for Princess Elizabeth, in itself a tribute to British skill in design and workmanship. Cut on classic lines in ivory duchesse satin, it is lavishly enriched with pearl and crystal embroidery. The 15 ft train of pearl embroidered ivory silk tulle falls from the shoulders beneath the enveloping folds of the crisp tulle veil. The Winterhalter style dresses for the bridesmaids in ethereal white tulle over satin are scattered with syringa flowers in applique satin embroidered in pearl and crystal. The going-away ensemble in love-in-the-mist blue is on the right; shoes to go with it in elasticated mushroom beige suede are shown, with the bridal shoes and bridesmaids head dress above. Date: 1947

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this enchanting photograph, we are transported back in time to the fairytale wedding of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark, which took place on November 20, 1947. The image showcases the stunning bridal gown designed by the renowned British couturier, Norman Hartnell, a testament to the country's exceptional design and craftsmanship. The elegant gown, cut on classic lines in ivory duchesse satin, is a vision of timeless beauty, adorned with exquisite pearl and crystal embroidery. The grand train of pearl embroidered ivory silk tulle, which falls from the shoulders beneath the enveloping folds of the crisp tulle veil, adds an air of regal grandeur. The bridesmaids' dresses, inspired by the Winterhalter style, are equally captivating. Their ethereal white tulle gowns, layered over satin, are delicately embellished with applique satin flowers in syringa, adorned with pearl and crystal. The bridesmaids' ensemble is completed with a love-in-the-mist blue going-away dress, which is displayed on the right, along with bridal shoes and bridesmaids' headpieces. This photograph is a breathtaking reminder of one of the most memorable moments in British history, a wedding that symbolized hope, love, and the enduring power of tradition. The intricate details of the gowns and the elegant poses of the bridesmaids capture the essence of a bygone era, making this image a must-have for any collection of royal, fashion, or wedding history.
