In this photograph, taken on 28 March 1910, we find two pioneering figures of early aviation history: Cecil Stanley Grace and The Hon Charles Stewart Rolls. They are seen here soaring through the skies above Eastchurch in England, each at the controls of their Short-Wright Type A biplanes. This momentous occasion marked a significant milestone in the development of aviation as the first public flight demonstration in the country. A memorial window, dedicated to the memory of these intrepid flyers, was later inserted into Eastchurch Parish Church and unveiled by the Archbishop of Canterbury in August 1912.
