Grissom, born on April 3, 1926, was a trailblazing American astronaut and military officer who became the second American to travel into space, following Alan Shepard. In this image, taken during the height of the Space Race between the United States and the Soviet Union, Grissom's steely gaze and confident posture convey his unwavering commitment to the pursuit of aeronautical advancements and exploration.
