Built in 1938 as a Tipsy B, this aircraft was characterized by a smaller rudder and a lower all-up weight compared to its subsequent iterations, such as the Tipsy Trainer 1 (from msn 09 onwards). At the time of this image, G-AFKP was still in its original form, displaying the classic lines and elegance of a bygone era. The Tipsy B was a popular training aircraft during the late 1930s and 1940s, with over 1,000 examples produced. However, the history of this particular aircraft took an unexpected turn. After serving in the UK, G-AFKP was exported to Sudan in 1952. Unfortunately, it met its end in a crash that same year. Despite its tragic end, this photograph serves as a poignant reminder of the aircraft's grace and beauty during its time at Cowes.
