EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph showcases the Royal Air Force's (RAF) Hawker Hunter F Mk. 6 XE592, a magnificent aircraft that once belonged to the prestigious No.111 Squadron RAF Black Arrows formation display team. The image, believed to have been taken around 1959, portrays XE592 in its prime as a formation display aircraft. Delivered to the RAF on October 2, 1956, as an F Mk. 6 Hunter, XE592 was later converted to the F(GA) Mk.9 configuration at some point after this photograph was taken. The conversion was likely made to accommodate the requirements of the Black Arrows display team. The Hawker Hunter was a versatile and iconic British jet fighter, renowned for its sleek design and impressive performance. XE592's distinctive markings and pristine condition in this photograph are a testament to the meticulous care and attention given to the aircraft by its RAF handlers. Tragically, XE592's tenure with the RAF came to an end on October 16, 1964, when it was written off. The aircraft was subsequently struck off charge on December 5, 1964, and classified as CAT5(S). Despite its unfortunate demise, this photograph serves as a lasting reminder of the beauty, power, and history of the Royal Air Force's Hawker Hunter F Mk. 6 XE592 and the No.111 Squadron RAF Black Arrows formation display team.
