EDITORS COMMENTS
This vintage photograph captures a North American T-39A Sabreliner, specifically model 61-0664 (msn 265-67, buzz number TG-664), in service around 1965. The T-39A Sabreliner is a twin-engine, supersonic advanced jet trainer used by the United States military for pilot and navigator training. In March 1985, this particular Sabreliner was disposed of to the Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Center (AMARC) in the desert of Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Arizona. However, its story did not end there. In June 1990, when vocational programs were dropped at the Dual Vocational Institute in Tracy, California, the Sabreliner was offered to the Castle Air Museum in Atwater, California. The plane was dismantled and trucked to the museum's Restoration Hangar on December 5, 2007. The North American T-39A Sabreliner is a significant piece of aviation history, representing the advanced technology and innovation of the mid-20th century. Its journey from military service to museum exhibit is a testament to the enduring value of preserving historical artifacts for future generations to learn from and appreciate. This photograph offers a glimpse into the past, showcasing the sleek design and powerful presence of this iconic flight training aircraft.
