EDITORS COMMENTS
This striking photograph captures the Morane-Saulnier MS.760 Paris 46, registration number 6-MS-133, of Ea 601 (French Naval Aviation Squadron) as it sits on the tarmac at RAF Lossiemouth in Scotland on 25 July 1981. The Morane-Saulnier MS.760 Paris is a French-designed, single-engine, advanced jet trainer and light combat aircraft, which first flew in 1955. This particular aircraft was operated by the French Navy for pilot training and was part of the Escadron d'Appui Tactique 601 (Ea 601), based at Landivisiau in Brittany, France. The MS.760 Paris 46 is a two-seat variant of the MS.760 Paris series, featuring side-by-side seating and improved avionics. The aircraft is seen here in its distinctive navy blue and grey camouflage scheme, with the French naval ensign emblazoned on the fin. The MS.760 Paris was known for its exceptional performance, with a top speed of over 500 mph and a service ceiling of 45,000 feet. The presence of this French naval aircraft at RAF Lossiemouth in 1981 likely indicates that it was participating in joint training exercises with the Royal Air Force. The MS.760 Paris continued to serve with the French Navy until the late 1990s, when it was replaced by more modern training and combat aircraft. This photograph provides a fascinating glimpse into the international military aviation scene of the early 1980s.
