Grumman US-2C Tracker 133370

Unites States Navy - Grumman US-2C Tracker 133370 (msn 237C, base code UA, call-sign 54, ex S2F-2), of VC-1. The S2F-2 (S-2C post 1962) was developed to carry the Mk.90 nuclear depth charge, requiring an enlarged weapons bay, which can be clearly seen. Only 60 were built before the Mk.90 depth charge was replaced in the stockpile by the smaller Mk.101 Lulu nuclear weapon, which could be carried in the standard sized weapons bay. Most were converted to target-towing/utility aircraft, including 133370. Date: 1960s

EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph showcases a Grumman US-2C Tracker aircraft with the identification number 133370, also known as msn 237C and base code UA, call sign 54. This aircraft was a part of the VC-1 squadron of the United States Navy. The Grumman US-2C Tracker, which succeeded the S2F-2 model post-1962, was specifically designed to carry the Mk.90 nuclear depth charge. Consequently, an enlarged weapons bay is evident in this image. However, only 60 of these aircraft were built before the Mk.90 depth charge was replaced in the stockpile with the smaller Mk.101 Lulu nuclear weapon, which could be carried in the standard-sized weapons bay. The majority of these aircraft, including 133370, were subsequently converted for target-towing and utility purposes. This aeronautical marvel, hailing from the 1960s, embodies the technological advancements and innovations of the era. Its powerful engines and distinctive design are a testament to the ingenuity and vision of the aviation industry during this period. The Grumman US-2C Tracker 133370 remains an intriguing piece of aviation history, a flying aeroplane that continues to inspire awe and admiration.
